This accessibility statement applies to the ‘Monitor Space Hazards’ website (www.monitor-space-hazards.service.gov.uk).

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

The National Space Operations Centre is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

The website has been tested against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Graphs and charts

Some information in our graphs is communicated using colour alone. For instance, bar chart categories rely solely on colour differences that may not be perceivable to users with limited colour vision or those using limited-colour or monochrome displays. As a result, these users may not be able to identify the meaning of the bars. This fails WCAG 2.2 A success criterion 1.4.1 (Use of colour).

It is not possible to navigate the graphs with a keyboard or to display interactive labels for lines on the graph. This is because the graphs were taken from a pre-existing graph library, as no approved GDS components exist, and ‘skinned’ to look like our website.

We have ensured that all information displayed in graphs/charts is also available in tables as well as Comma Separated Variable (CSV) and/or JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) files.

Auth0 login page

The following content on the Auth0 login page is not compliant with the WCAG version 2.2 A and AA standard:

Exemptions

We use an interactive map as part of the Monitor Space Hazards service. While we’ve made efforts to make it as accessible as possible, it still presents challenges for some users, particularly those using screen readers or keyboard navigation. We have discussed this issue with our accessibility auditor (Digital Accessibility Centre), and agreed that this exemption is appropriate. All critical information displayed on the map is also available in accompanying JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) files.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We aim to fix content which fails to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard. We will update this page when issues are fixed.

The use of third-party services

Auth0 is a third-party authentication service used by Monitor Space Hazards. We are unable to address the non-compliance with accessibility regulations on the Auth0 pages. We have documented all features that do not comply with WCAG 2.2 AA and have contacted Auth0 to improve the accessibility.
